Kalgoorlie College FC kicked off the season with emphatic wins in all three grades against Hannans Celtic on Sunday at Usher Park.
The College Ladies started their quest to regain the league title they lost to Boulder City last year with a resounding 7-nil victory. A hat-trick from new young recruit Erica Williams, who impressed on her College debut, and goals from Sienna Kolatowicz (2), Jessica Jeffery and Kaydee Duncan were enough to see off a spirited Hannans Celtic side.
“It was a great team effort,” first year Coach Peter Rakic said after the game.
“The ladies have been working hard in pre-season and it great to see that the efforts have paid off.”
In the B Grade, College were again too good for Hannans Celtic, dominating from start to finish to run out 5-nil winners. Colm McRory was the outstanding performer in the side and the striker was unlucky to finish with only one goal. Tawanda Ncube, Brock Reilly, Mitch Gray and Gerald Mutedzi all chipped in with a goal apiece in a dazzlingly display of passing football.
“It was a great footballing performance by the boys,” Coach Ronny Ah-Tive said after the game.
“We dominated in every area of the pitch and had some great passage of play where we were incredible in maintain possession but the most pleasing aspect of the performance is the clean sheet.”
In the A Grade a brace apiece from debutant Nic Duncan and Peter Rakic and goals from Elliahs Kungache, Mathew Darby and Brandon Kagoro again demonstrated the gulf in quality between the two sides as College made light work of Hannans Celtic to win 7-nil.
College started the game slowly characterised by profligacy in front of goals. The opening goal by Duncan spurred College into life to take a 3-nil lead into half time.
The second half was a much improved performance by College as they scored four more goals but the display in defence by Daniel Tebble, Kodi Sticklen and Daniel Tebble was the most pleasing aspect of the game for veteran player-coach Andrew Reilly.
“It’s always great to score seven but the boys, led by the defence, worked very hard to keep the Celtic attack quiet, almost to the point where I had very little to do in goals,” Reilly said after the game.
