Thrilling Win For Ladies; Disappointment for Men
20 May 2014 by Ronny Ah-Tive
LADIES: College Ladies scored twice on either side of half-time to register a thrilling 2-1 come from behind win over Twin City at Usher park on Sunday.
Twin City forged in front on the quarter-hour mark when their striker toe-poke from 25-yard into the top right hand corner.
College levelled just before half time when Kaydee Duncan fired home a loose ball after the Twin City defense failed to clear their lines.
Fifteen minutes into the second half prolific striker Sienna Kolatowicz put College ahead with a superb curling shot into the bottom right hand corner. Twin fought hard to equalize but the College defense, marshalled by Tahlia Fyfe, held on to take the points in a pulsating encounter.
“It was an awesome effort by the ladies to come away with the win,” Coach Peter Rakic said after the game.
“They all showed great fighting spirit and a positive attitude which will get us these results each week if we work for it. We now have a week to prepare for the clash against boulder which we all know will be a tough game.”
B GRADE: Twin City Edge College 3-2
In B Grade action Twin City held on to edge College 3-2 and take all three points.
Twin City looked to be in total control after three first-half goals gave them a comfortable advantage at the break.
College, who were rather lacklustre in the first period, hit back through Lionel Masendra and Patrick Mutoyoki in the second half but were unable to find the equalising goal.
“It was a rather flat performance from us,” Coach Ronny Ah-Tive said after the game.
“There were patches where we were good but just not enough of that. It’s early in the season and we didn’t expect to roll over everyone.”
“The challenge has been laid now we have to work hard as a team to overcome that.”
A GRADE: College Comes Up Short Against Twin City
In A Grade action College fell short losing 2-1 to Twin City in a game cut short due to injury.
College never really got into the game and found themselves trailing 2-0 at half time. They improved in the second half and cut the deficit with a well taken goal from Tafadzwa Ncube.
The game came to life in the last fifteen minutes after Twin City had a player sent off but in spite of the pressure College were unable to find the equalizing goal.
“It wasn’t one of our best performance,” Coach Andrew Reilly said.
“We’ve got a very young side and some key players missing but I know we can improve and we will be looking to the next game to do that.”
