LADIES: College Ladies continued their impressive start to the season with a hard fought 1-0 win over Boulder City Ladies on Sunday at Usher Park. Sienna Kolatowicz scored the only goal of the game, making it four goal in three games for the prolific strikers.

Having gained maximum points in their first two games, College went into the match full of confidence but also aware that this was going to be a stern challenge for the team. As expected it was a close match which in the end was settled by a brilliant piece of play from Kolatowics and some resolute defending by College.

“It was a difficult game given the hot conditions but the girls worked hard and they deserved the three points,” Coach Peter Rakic said.

"We’ve played all three teams now and to be fair we have been the better team in the first round of competitions but we have a lot more games to come and need to continue to work hard.”

B GRADE: College B Grade suffered a 4-0 loss to Boulder City over the weekend and now face a battle to win the Championship.

A lack of commitment in the game saw College down 1-0 within the first five minutes of the game and as the half wore on, things got progressively worse for them as they let in another three soft goals to end the half down 4-nil.

The second half saw a much improved performance from the College side as they were able to defend as a group and prevent Boulder from scoring. They also created a number of chances but were unable to convert them and finished the game 4-0.

“It was a tough day for us at the office,” Coach Ronny Ah-Tive said after the game.

“We never really got going and never managed to play as a team. It wasn’t an indication that the other team were so much better but rather a reflecting of how bad we were.”

“But we will bounce back. If the boys are prepared to work hard for one anther we can get back to winning ways.”

A GRADE: College Premiership Team got back to winning ways after a resounding 3-1 win over Boulder on Sunday. College showed character and determination to overturn a 1-nil deficit within the first ten minutes of the game to run out comfortable 3-1 winners.

Having lost 3-2 to Twin City the previous week, College Coach Andrew Reilly was looking for a response but it nearly went pear shape for College after an uncharacterised mistake by the defence allowed Boulder to open the scoring. But College never panic and through hard work and some great interchanging play in midfield saw them take control of the game.

College reshuffles their structure after conceding to match the Boulder formation and it paid dividends. College pushed players into the middle of the park and the momentum swayed towards the blue as they started to dominate possession and did not give Boulder any further scoring opportunities in the first half.

College level the score 30 minutes into the game through Brandon Kagoro. The young power-house midfielder piched the ball from a Boulder player inside his own half and powered his way past several defenders into the Boulder penalty area before unleashing a thunder-bolt into the top left hand corner to make the score 1-1. College were unlucky not to go in to the half time break 2- 1 up. After a late tackle on College young gun Nic Duncan, playing against his old club for the first time, College were awarded a free kick in a dangerous area. Veteran defender Andy Reilly whipped in a dangerous ball that Tawanda Ncube missed timed his run from 6 yards out, his attempted header interfered with Tebble who was unmarked at the back post. A great opportunity that saw the momentum truely swung towards the blue.

Following the restart College had their tails up. They were dominating the midfield possession and took the lead shortly after. Great work from Peter Rakic enabled College to pinch the ball, a smart through ball from Duncan played young midfielder Brock Reilly into the goal area and he did not waste the chance. Using composure beyond his 15 years, he stroked the ball first time past the advancing keeper into the right corner of the net.

College were not done and doubled their advantage when an opportunistic strike from Mat Darby caught the Boulder keeper unawares, his mistake costing his side dearly. College enjoyed the next 20 minutes of possession and both Duncan and Rakic could have sealed the deal for the Blues but their strikes went perilously close to converting.

After conceeding two early in the second half Boulder never recovered as College continued to dominated and it was only in the 80th minute when a harsh decision saw Mathew Darby given his marching orders for a second caution. Boulder pushed hard but College were not to be denied, defending hard with 10 men they held sway to keep the status quo.

"It was what we wanted from the group this week. Everyone has talked Boulder up and how they were going to dominate us this week. We kept quiet knowing we had 50% improvement from last week. We did just that and silenced some critics," Coach Andrew Reilly said after the win.

"I was proud of the dominant performance of Brandon Kagoro and also the hard work of Tebble and the other midfielders. We had no passenger this week from the top to the goals and that what we strive for. To see Brock and Brandon score goals like that was great for the club, they are juniors who we have developed over time and they just repaid that effort today."
