Patrick Mutokoyi scored twice as College twice came from 2-1 down to earn a share of the spoils against Celtic in a 2-2 draw at Usher Park on Sunday.
College started the brighter of the two sides and deservedly took the lead half way through the second half. A delicate through ball to Mitch Gray found the burly striker bearing down one-on-one with the keeper. The on-rushing keeper clattered into the striker sending him summersaulting into the air before landing heavily but luckily the ball deflected kindly for College into the path of Mutokoyi who had the simplest of tap in. For his effort the keeper was booked and had to leave the field injured.
But College’s lead did not last long as a defensive mistake allowed Celtic to draw level to end the first half 1-1. Another defensive lapsed allowed Celtic to take the lead early in the second half but College fought hard and got the goal they deserved through Mutokoyi. With 20 minutes of the game remaining College increased the tempo in search of the winner and had a host of opportunities but glaring missing from Mutokoyi and Gerald Mutedzi meant that the two teams had to settle for a point each.
“Our performance was better than last week but not anywhere near where I know we are capable of playing,” Coach Ronny Ah-Tive said after the game.
“The boys need to do a bit a soul searching and put in the hard work that is required for them to get back to winning ways. They need to stop being satisfied with just turning up for the game and take some pride in their performance.”
